Stéphane and his partner Cécile met when they were studying to become agricultural engineers; our southern roots and a shared interest in Mediterranean viticulture led them to create our estate in 2000. They fell in love with some ancient, low-yielding vines that were destined to be pulled up, and then found a winegrower's house for sale on the internet: this was the start of the Vila Voltaire adventure. They managed to buy some vines in the AOC Saint-Chinian area: century old Carignan, plus some Syrah and Grenache planted on red sandstone, within an idyllic environment that is perpetually subject to the wind and sun.
