VIRTUOSES 2021

SONATA IN SAINT-CHINIAN MAJOR

Orchestrated by the AOP Saint-Chinian producers’ organization, the Virtuoses masterfully played a score composed of the two terroirs – schist and limestone – that make up this Languedoc appellation.

Every year since 2011, the Virtuoses have set the tempo for the Saint-Chinian appellation. Every estate – from the hundred or so in the appellation area – can take part in this uniquely styled competition. The wines entered must comply with very stringent rules. Ranging from the characteristics of each vineyard-to-vineyard management techniques, winemaking and ageing conditions, around forty criteria are gone through with a fine-tooth comb. Every wine is then tasted over three vintages: one commercially available and two older vintages. And if one of the samples tasted blind does not meet with the panel’s approval, the wine is automatically rejected. The aim is not only to prove that AOP Saint-Chinian produces fine wines but also for producers to continue the soul-searching process.
